to the devdasi
she was supposed to be beautiful,
she was supposed to serve her gods,
she didn't want to lose her dignity
probably she never will,
but today she chooses to live in slums
hiding from faces that stare
from eyes that don't mean good
but for today,
she is happy in the color, the bling that she sees
frightened to look at the suns glaze
